Timing the seedlings

Nearing the end of April & I've only just started seedlings.  It seems so late to be going, but my little corner patch is something of a heavy soil, & one half has poorer drainage, so the soil is still very cold.  Earlier this month it seemed like summer had arrived early, but we are back to early spring weather: damp, chilled, windy, & a frost warning last night!

The weather in my part of Connecticut just isn't stable enough to put anything into the garden until around Mothers' Day (3rd Sunday in May). Even thought it kills me to have to wait 'so long'! So my little seeds will stay inside, in front of the window, with light fertilizer to encourage strong growth.  In another week or two, I will break up the soil, add amendments, & let the lengthening sun-hours warm it all up.  By the time the little plant-lets have their secondary leaves, it will be a nice fluffy soil for them to bed in.

This year I will also add a few containers (dill, easter egg radishes, spearment, clove pinks) along with sunflowers, marigolds, cucumbers, red cabbage, lettuce mix, tomato, basil, cinnamon basil, german chamomile, mugwort, & wild roses.  I really hope that most of them take sprout!

I love words....

A few of my favorites are: grue, kibitz, bowdlerize, flabbergast, gobsmack, interrobang, doohicky, bezoar, & gobo.   I love the sound they make & the history behind them.  Will Self further expounds on this subject.

Heineken sponsoring dog-fighting!

Notice, please, the prominent Heineken banners!! I don't care if the fight is legal in the country where it is set, dog-fighting is 10 steps beyond cruel....torture, in fact.  As a world-wide company, I expect Heineken to take a strong step against such inhumane activities as a matter of corporate responsibility.

I have already sent my email in protest of this crass, money-grubbing act of blood-money, & will be boycotting Heineken products until the company very publicly announces that they will no longer sponsor same.  I strongly urge everyone, who stands against such activity, to do the same:

The rest of my seeds came in :)

From Alchemy Works came in German Chamomile, Dill, Mugwort, Pot Marigold, Spearmint, Sunflower, White & Red Wild Rose, & Clove Pinks. This is in addition to cucumber, tomato, lettuce, basil, cinnamon basil, & pumpkin.
This Saturday I should finally have time without helpful grandchildren to start the seedlings.  It just makes me itch to wait until Mothers' Day to put seedlings in, but the weather is too unpredictable.  I also have to put up a stronger temporary fence, thanks to soninlaws dog. :/

Blogger hates me, so this is a day late...

Something to contemplate, for a Tuesday Thought a day late: ancient rama
This thought brought to you by  Gordon, he who brings my love of maps happily to the surface.

Some stories for mid-week.

Nothing that I have written, Magaly ;), but a few stories for inspiration, perhaps.  Tomtes
are first in the line-up, followed by the Mist Witches.  This one is for Magaly, because she was writing of Tarot......  the tarot of unpopular futures.

Upon multiple chemical sensitivities

I have one of the milder cases of Multiple Chemical Sensitivities.  I am in no way as severe as Laurie, & I would like to keep it that way.  Quite often I feel like Jen....a canary in the coal mine.  It would be a big help if Social Security accepted that MCS is a legitimate disability, instead of dragging their feet....
